Updated: Jul 30, 2021

The Gatwick School, located on the Manor Royal estate, just south of the Gatwick Airport boundary has partnered with Gatwick Aviation Museum, in a collaborative new community led initiative to support their students with skills development and future career opportunities, that also supports the national curriculum.

The school, which teaches children from ages 5 to 16 years, has collaborated with the Charity in several ways in order to support this new partnership.

Interactive Learning Hub

We are working together to create a suite of materials online, to support students, parents and teachers.

"The pandemic was hugely disruptive to parents, students and teachers. This highlighted that organisations like the Gatwick Aviation Museum can and should be doing more, to support those in our community. The interactive hub we hope will be an ever evolving resource, one that we are confident will have many contributors and will form a clear gateway into future aviation careers."

STEM Programs

STEM education aims to provide students with practical skills that is largely based on real-world careers. It underpins the foundational stage of many sectors, including aviation and many more and is often integral to organisations within this field.

Gatwick Aviation Museum is developing plans to support new STEM classrooms that focus on project-based learning. Projects and activities involving modern technology and practical applications of science that relate to aviation or aeronautical engineering. Students at the Gatwick School will benefit, by being able to apply the various domains of STEM in a context that helps them realize a connection between the classroom and the world around them. Although these development plans are in their infancy, it is an exciting project and one that we hope will launch as early as 2022.

After School Club

As part of this partnership, GAMC is working with The Gatwick School to launch a new after school club. A place where children can come once-per-week, in order to learn practical skills science and aviation and drive enthusiasm and enjoyment amongst children.

Working with key members of the faculty, this partnership is set to transform the landscape of both the Museums day-to-day activities and will provide Gatwick School with something new and exciting that they can offer their students.
